He’s Our Rokkii has returned to racing in slick form this time and remains an outright $3.40 favourite in 2016 Toorak Handicap betting markets, ahead of Bon Aurum ($5), Royal Rapture and Counterattack; currently sharing the third line at generous $8 odds.

Will He’s Our Rokkii justify favouritism and win the 2016 Toorak Handicap, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

Counterattack ($8)

Counterattack appeared as though he ran out of distance in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) last time out, and the addition of James McDonald this weekend could mean the difference in success. Running second in the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) before winning the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) most notably in autumn and winter, the Redoute’s Choice gelding returned this time for a close second in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m). Having placed sixth a fortnight ago, Counterattack will carry only 54.5kgs in the Toorak Handicap and should receive a great run from barrier 8.

Thames Court ($11)

In-form mare Thames Court will carry only 52kgs in the 2016 Toorak Handicap, is drawn well and will relish a step up to a mile. Winner of the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes (1600m) most notably in autumn, Thames Court returned this time for second in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) on August 27th. Progressing to another close second in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m), the Commands mare ran on well for fourth in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) last time out and will again be partnered by Corey Brown on Saturday.

Awesome Rock ($15)

Awesome Rock is arguably the class horse of the 2016 Toorak Handicap field, but the five-year-old has been charged with overcoming a race-high 58kgs and something of a wide draw in barrier 9. Awesome Rock was unlucky to lose the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) on protest in autumn, and the horse clearly required a run when he resumed this time for tenth in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) on August 13th. Savaging the line for success in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) on September 3rd, the son of Fastnet Rock placed fifth in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) a fortnight ago.
