Brideoake’s stable appeared to be depleted noticeably when former top liner and Group 1 winner Griante was retired into a career as a broodmare following the recent Autumn Carnival, however Thames Court has comfortably made the transition into a strong Group 1 competitor in her own right.

Resuming this time for a close second in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes (1200m) on August 27th, the Commands mare again finished second in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) before arguably a career-best performance to fourth amongst classy company in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago.

Confident she will only relish a step up to a mile, Brideoake told AAP that he believes the 2016 Toorak Handicap into the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) figures as an ideal path for Thames Court for the remainder of her spring preparation.

“She’s come through the race (Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes) beautifully so we’ve got the idea that we’ll go to the Toorak,” Brideoake said.

“She ran beautifully and with a little bit more luck she could have run a bit better.

“It’s a pretty outstanding effort to run second in the Cockram and second in the Let’s Elope and then perform so well in Sir Rupert Clarke.

“I think the mile will be her go so the Toorak into the Myer would be a nice way to go.”

Thames Court has posted a commendable three wins and four minors through only ten career starts, since making her competitive debut during the spring of 2015.

Returning to the paddock after running third in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Fillies’ Classic (1600m) on October 24th, Thames Court resumed this year for consecutive wins in the City Jeep Cherokee BM64 (1200m) and Group 3 Alexandra Stakes (1600m), but was returned to the paddock after failing to fire in the Listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) on April 9th.

The 2016 Toorak Handicap field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday (October 5th).
