Some of the Spring Carnival’s standout racing prospects will take to the barriers for Saturday’s 2015 Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m); offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Disposition has returned to racing in slick form this time and remains outright $4.80 favourite in 2015 Toorak Handicap betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Lucky Hussler ($5.50) and last start winner Stratum Star ($7).
Will Disposition justify his favouritism and win the 2015 Toorak Handicap or will one of his many talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Four-year-old Disposition has found slick form leading into the 2015 Toorak Handicap and will be hard to beat from barrier 7 with leading hoop Dwayne Dunn in the saddle. Winning each of the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) and Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) before finishing second in the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) during an impressive Perth summer campaign, the Reset gelding charged home to win the Listed The Sofitel (1400m) before running second in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) last time out. Lee Freedman has been thrilled with horse’s condition and is confident the Toorak Handicap figures as an ideal target.
Lucky Hussler ($5.50)
Lucky Hussler has been a strong and consistent performer for Darren Weir since transferring to his care prior to the 2014 Spring Carnival and appears primed for success in the 2015 Toorak Handicap. Capping a strong 2014 a close second in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m), the Husson gelding returned this year for success in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m), and while only managed mid pack finishes in his next two starts, has placed fourth in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) and sixth in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes this time.
Queensland raider Hopfgarten was luckless in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes last time, but posted the fastest final sectional and is sure to lay a great account for himself on Saturday with only 54kgs in tow. A strong and consistent performer for trainer Robert Heathcote, the Mossman gelding has posted an impressive nine wins and six minors through only 29 career starts, and will leave from the rails draw with in-form hoop Glen Colless aboard.
